On 22 March, African Union Sports Council (AUSC) Region 5 hosted a Webinar on "Coping with COVID-19 - The Future is in Women's Hands, Practical Solutions", inviting speakers to share their personal experiences about the challenges they are facing in sport and ways to overcome them.

The conversation was led by moderator Merit Munzwe Mbirir - Zimbabwe Broadcasting Corporation Seasoned Sport Editor, and three panelists; Kady Kanouté Tounkara Oly - Former Malian Professional Basketball player and Chair of WADA Education Committee, Susan A. Destombes - General Secretary of Council of Southern Africa Football Associations, and Desiree Ellis - Head Coach of South Africa Women’s National Football Team, who exchanged on their own sports journey and provided insights on how to foster excellence.

 

This webinar was the second session of a 2-part webinar on "Coping with COVID-19" focusing on women empowerment and gender equality. The 2-part webinar aimed to celebrate March as "Women's Month" for AUSC Region 5 in connection with  International Women's Day. Held on 15 March, the first part "Coping with COVID-19 - Breaking Barriers for Women in Sport" also boasted an impressive line up of women leaders. (Watch the first part of the Webinar here).
