[Video] Relive our Made to Play Coaching Girls Guide Workshop

The fifth workshop in the global Made to Play Coaching Girls Guide series was held on 9 May and co-organised by TAFISA and Nike Made to Play, in partnership with three members from the Balkans: Sport Union of Slovenia, Turkish Sport for All Federation, and Association Sport for All Serbia.


With over 70 registrations from 5 countries in the region, the workshop aimed to increase and enhance opportunities for girls and women to undertake sport and physical activity as well as highlight the necessity of equal representation at all levels.

The workshop was officially kicked-off by Fiona Johnson, TAFISA Board Member and Vice President of International Dance Organization, who gave words of welcome on behalf of the TAFISA Board of Directors. Her intervention was followed by expert speakers who shared their insights on the State of Play of three sports in the Balkans and provided valuable knowledge and experience on how to engage with girls and women in the sports movement:

  • Prof. Dr Fatma Nese Sahin
    A member of Turkish Sport for All Federation’s (HİS) Education Council, she is responsible for coaching education programmes and is also a trainer in coaching courses in wellnes and yoga.
  • Milena Reljin Tatic
    The current Chairperson of the Women and Sport Commission at the Olympic Committee of Serbia, she is not only a coach but also an sportswoman and former top international athlete in Rhythmic Gymnastics. Ms Reljin has also created and implemented the "Rhythmic Serbia" project which promoted Rhythmic Gymnastics and sport for the female population. A large number of coaches and judges were trained throigh the project, resulting in an increase of the number of new clubs in all of Serbia.
  • Mojca Markovič
    A former Euroleague and National team basketball player, she has a rich personal knowledge and experience in both sport project management and coaching basketball (all age categories). She has designed the Active Ageing Festival, an innovative approach to encourage the elderly to become physicaly active. As an elite basketball player she played 3 seasons in Euroleague and 4 seasons in EuroCup, and she has won 7 national champion titles in Slovenia and was 7-time Slovenian Cup winner. She coiunts 65 official appearances for the women's senior national team of Slovenia. She received awards such as “Golden basketball” as well as “Silver basketball” from the Basketball Federation of Slovenia.

Denise Robrade, TAFISA Project Manager moderated the workshop and facilitated an interactive roundtable discussion providing participants with the opportunity to share their experiences as coaches, leaders, and managers in recruiting and retaining girls in sports programmes, events, and initiatives. Following this, Viv Holt, Head of International Operations for Youth Sport Trust International, presented the Made to Play Coaching Girls Guide. This free and easily accessible resource aims to assist participants in making their sporting activities and sessions more appealing, inclusive, and accessible to girls.
