Liverpool John Moores University, TAFISA, and Evaleo, a leading provider of digital solutions for the sport and physical activity sector, collaborated to host The International Active City webinar. The objective was to bring together experts from varied fields to discuss the challenges and opportunities of promoting physical activity and sport in urban areas.

Delegates from the organisations shared their expertise on the role of sport and physical activity in urban development. It was a platform for attendees to exchange ideas, best practices and to network with other professionals.

The webinar was attended by participants from around the world, including Global Active cities representatives, sport and leisure associations, as well as Sport for All and physical activity professionals. "We need to strengthen the communication of the core components and how we implement and share that knowledge", Dr Fiona Bull, head of Physical Activity promotion unit in the WHO kicked off with a keynote on the importance of creating linked active cities, sharing the tools necessary to do so, and overcoming the challenges of the pandemic to promote healthy lifestyles and social cohesion.

One of the key themes discussed was the need for cities to be designed in a way that supports physical activity. In that domain, Klaus Meinel from IAKS shared examples of active cities developed to engage and transform spaces and explained the process as "the creation of public spaces, such as parks and recreation areas, that encourage people to be active and to participate in sport".

The speakers also discussed the challenges and opportunities of using technology and digital solutions to promote physical activity, and how this can help cities to create more active, healthy, and sustainable communities. The webinar received positive feedback from attendees, who praised the high-quality content, the expert speakers and the opportunity to engage with others in the field. It constituted a platform for professionals and anyone interested to come together and discuss the challenges and opportunities of promoting Sport for All and physical activity in urban areas.
