On 27- 28 November, 2023, the collaborative meeting between the Global Observatory and UNESCO marked a pivotal step in advancing gender equality. The focus was on the development of shared metrics and monitoring progress in gender-related aspects of physical education, physical activity, and sports.
Themed "Developing Shared Metrics and Monitoring Progress on Gender Equality, Girls, Women, Physical Education, Physical Activity, and Sport", the event resulted in key outcomes. The sessions provided comprehensive insights into the purpose, positioning, and strategic direction of the Global Observatory, emphasizing the importance of data collation and aggregation to address existing inequalities. Delegates actively participated in reviewing and advising on the adoption of Inclusive Data Principles and evaluating a proposed digital platform aimed at enhancing global access to data and resources.
A notable highlight was the development of a shared matrix of thematic areas, incorporating frameworks from both within and beyond the sports sector, including human rights and development frameworks. Delegates played a crucial role in reviewing and confirming priority measurement areas, showcasing the Global Observatory's commitment to advancing gender equality through comprehensive and collaborative efforts.
