In a world grappling with a marked decline in community ties, we are witnessing the erosion of connections within communities, a phenomenon that is significantly impacting volunteer participation in sports. At the heart of this challenge lies the often undervalued yet indispensable backbone of community revitalization, volunteerism.

Volunteerism, described by the United Nations Volunteers programme (2022) as a potent force in addressing development challenges, emerges as a pivotal solution. It possesses the transformative power to counter the decline in community ties, influencing the pace and character of development. From leadership and coaching to administration and sustainability, volunteers play a multifaceted role, contributing not only to sports infrastructure but also fostering crucial social bonds and personal development.

The urgency lies in recognising that the decline in volunteerism jeopardizes the very essence of Sport for All as a platform uniquely positioned to harness the power of volunteers. Youth participation, beyond being mere recipients, has the potential to transform young individuals into contributors and engaged citizens. Through volunteering, they acquire valuable skills, a sense of purpose, and pride, emerging as integral parts of the community fabric. Importantly, their involvement serves to enhance both the perception and reality of community safety.

Volunteer engagement in sports transcends the boundaries of mere physical activity; it becomes a catalyst for the development of a healthy and inclusive society. This fosters values of teamwork, discipline, and respect, shaping individuals who contribute positively to their communities. Inclusive volunteer involvement and skills enhancement through training, capacity building, and advocacy. However current trends show a decline in volunteerism.

This workshop serves as a platform to understand the current decline in volunteerism and its reasons in view to propose tangible strategies to encourage volunteerism and establish structures that build capacity and empower volunteers as agents of positive change within the Sport for All movement and the communities they serve.

Join us to be an integral part of this crucial conversation, engage, and learn how we can reverse the decline and revive the spirit of volunteerism for a brighter future! Don't miss out on valuable insights and discussions on enhancing volunteer engagement!
