On the evening of 24 March, TAFISA partners, supporters, and distinguished guests gathered in Frankfurt, Germany, to celebrate Sport for All. Hosted by the City of Frankfurt as a prelude to the TAFISA European Forum, the reception served as a warm welcome and a celebration of impactful initiatives advancing Sport for All in Frankfurt.
Within the prestigious premises of Frankfurt's historic city hall, the ceremony commenced with a welcome address by City Councillor Ina Hauck. She reaffirmed Frankfurt's strong commitment to Sport for All and expressed enthusiasm for the Forum. TAFISA President Wolfgang Baumann followed with words of gratitude, acknowledging Frankfurt and Germany’s pivotal role in TAFISA’s journey since its founding in 1991. He lauded the city's hospitality for welcoming the participants inside Frankfurt’s “living room,” and highlighted the importance of the gathering. He concluded by emphasizing TAFISA’s will to keep its close ties with the City of Frankfurt.
The evening also honored local initiatives that are making a difference in Sport for All, with representatives from the following programs receiving the prestigious TAFISA Mission 2030 Awards:
infrau e.V for the program "Schwimmen und Radfahren für Migrantinnen"
The Intercultural Counseling and Education Center for Women, Girls, and Senior Women, infrau e.V., is located in the Frankfurt district of Bornheim. Since 1984, it has been supporting and assisting women, girls, and their families with migration and refugee experiences from the Rhine-Main region.
Since 2011, infrau e.V. has successfully offered swimming and cycling courses for migrant women in cooperation with the Frankfurt sports club FTV 1860, Sports Youth Hessen, and Bäderbetriebe Frankfurt. To date, around 900 women from over 65 different countries have taken part in the program. Women who, for various reasons, did not have the opportunity to learn how to swim or ride a bicycle in their childhood can attend our beginner courses. The courses are open to all women aged 18 and older. The teaching methods have been specifically designed for adults.
The project was awarded the Frankfurt Sports Prize in 2012 and the Prize of Health Insurance DAK „Gesichter für ein gesundes Miteinander“ in 2024.
The Public Health Office, the Sports Office, and the Youth and Social Welfare Office of the City of Frankfurt am Main for the Program "Fit in Frankfurt"
Fit in Frankfurt (FiF) is a joint project of the Public Health Office, the Sports Office, and the Youth and Social Welfare Office of the City of Frankfurt am Main. It combines the topics of health, exercise, and social engagement, aiming to promote easy access to health participation for people in the city within their familiar environment. The project is funded until 2027 by health insurance companies and associations in the state of Hesse under Section 20a of the German Social Code (SGB V) as part of their responsibilities for health promotion and prevention in everyday settings.
As part of the initiative, low-threshold "Movement Buddies" are trained to independently offer walking meetups for neighbors who previously had little access to physical activity. Those who complete the training can provide information about exercise and sports opportunities in their district, explain the positive effects of physical activity on health, and connect participants with local institutions.
The free FiF walking meetups are open to everyone. Participants can join casually, get to know each other, and explore their neighborhood together. The walks take place regularly, depending on the district, either weekly or every two weeks, and last about one hour.
Currently, the initiative is being promoted through blue postcards, available in various restaurants, bars, and cafés across Frankfurt. Learn more here 🔗 https://frankfurt.de/gutgehts/fitinfrankfurt/uebersicht/angebote.
