SPACHE Conference: How to link Sport and Cultural Heritage in Europe?

30 May 2023

SPACHE (Sport and Physical Activity in Cultural Heritage Environments) is an initiative funded by the European Commission under the Erasmus+ Sport programme. Developed by a partnership of nine actors, the project aimed to explore the integration of non-competitive physical activities and sports with the exploration of natural and historical heritage. Additionally, it sought to contribute to the advancement and dissemination of knowledge in these areas.

To mark the successful completion of the project, the SPACHE partners have organised a final conference and a workshop in Brussels. The objectives of these events are to disseminate the intellectual outputs of the project to policymakers and stakeholders at the European level, raise awareness among decision-makers about the outcomes of heritage-based sport and physical activity strategies, and provide a capacity-building workshop to enhance policymakers' and stakeholders' ability to design and implement effective heritage-based strategies.

The conference and workshop will take place at the French Representation in Brussels. Participants are required to bring their ID cards and arrive by 9:00 am to allow sufficient time for a safety check. The agenda for the day is as follows:

The conference will provide an opportunity for stakeholders and policymakers to learn about the achievements of the SPACHE project and its implications for heritage-based sport and physical activity strategies. By bringing together experts and representatives from various organisations, the event aims to foster collaboration and knowledge sharing in this emerging field.

Participants can expect engaging discussions, insightful presentations, and practical insights on how to effectively design and implement projects that combine sport and cultural heritage. The workshop will be particularly beneficial for policymakers and stakeholders interested in developing innovative approaches to promote physical activity while preserving and celebrating cultural heritage.

The SPACHE project's finale conference and presential workshop represent a significant milestone in the promotion of heritage-based sport and physical activity. Through the dissemination of project outputs and the sharing of knowledge, policymakers and stakeholders can enhance their understanding of the value and potential of integrating physical activities with cultural heritage. This collaborative effort will contribute to the development of effective strategies that promote both physical well-being and cultural appreciation.
