On 19-20 November, TAFISA Member CONADER introduced their Active Cities label, a nationwide initiative to promote the concept of active cities as supported by a manual for municipalities to implement their strategy. The events started on 19 November as 20 municipalities, along with representatives from various national ministries, local NGOs, UNESCO, and WHO, joined an Active Cities Workshop hosted by CONADER. Facilitated by Active Cities expert Eleonora Bauer from Argentina and TAFISA Head of Operations Gaëtan Garcia, the workshop tackled the fundamentals of designing an Active City strategy with good practices and examples from Buenos Aires, one of the first Global Active City.
The event was followed by CONADER’s 2nd Guatemalan Active Cities Congress, which brought various speakers from municipalities, NGOs, the health sector, and intergovernmental bodies to exchange on how Active Cities can contribute to solving current challenges and align with UNESCO Fit for Life, WHO GAPPA, and the UN SDGs at large. Municipalities also shared inspiring good practices and ideas on how they implement their strategy at the local level, bridging policy and practice.
The Congress call to action is available here - Llamado a la Acción - II Congreso de Ciudadees Activas.pdf (PDF in Spanish).
TAFISA would like to once again congratulate CONADER and their partners for the launch of an inspiring initiative and the organisation of a successful event.
