Slovenia Ready to Host TAFISA Congress 2021

As the 27th TAFISA World Congress will be held in Portorož, Slovenia, one year from now on 6-10 October, 2021, TAFISA Secretary General Wolfgang Baumann visited Slovenia for tour of inspection from 30 September to 1 October. Throughout his visit, he was accompanied by a delegation comprised of representatives from the Olympic Committee of Slovenia - Association of Sports Federations (OCS - ASF) and from Sports Union of Slovenia (SUS), both co-organisers of the Congress. 

The visit kicked off on Wednesday 30th in the morning, as the delegation was welcomed to the Ministry of Science, Education and Sports by dr. Mojca Doupona, acting director of the directorate for sports, and Zoran Verovnik, in charge of international affairs at the directorate. Representatives of Slovenia were introduced to the Congress, which will be the largest event of its kind hosted by Slovenia and will be attended by some 500 prominent representatives of sport organisations from over 80 countries all around the world. The Congress has an important role to play in the development of Sport for All globally and in Slovenia.

On this occasion, W. Baumann also met with Mentors participating in the FLOT (Female Leaders Of Tomorow) project at the Slovenian Olympic Training Center. In the afternoon, the delegation visited Primorska and attended the final event of the European Week of Sports together with the Mayor of Koper, Aleš Bržan.

The student beach volleyball tournament, organised by the Olympic Committee of Slovenia - Association of Sports Associations together with the University Sports Association in Primorska, concluded a week-long series of sports events that took place throughout the entire country and began on September 23, which is now officially celebrated as "Slovenian Sports Day" and is a national holiday. 

The visit to Primorska ended with a meeting with the mayor of the municipality of Piran, Mr. Đeni Zadkovič, who is also a member of the honorary committee of the Congress. The Municipality of Piran is one of the partners in the organisation of the Congress and will host a number of accompanying activities in the municipality.

On the morning of Thursday 1st October, the members of the honorary committee of the Congress were received by the President of the Republic of Slovenia, Mr. Borut Pahor, honorary patron of the 27th TAFISA World Congress.
